Chewdini Ingredient guide
What is in Chewdini, and what research says about each ingredient
The thirteen ingredients in the chew, grouped as on the jar. Each page covers what the ingredient is, what research in dogs has found and the amounts studied, with sources you can check.
Joints
- Green-lipped musselDogs on it improved slightly more than on placebo in most trials, mainly on vet and owner scores. Objective measures are few and products vary widely.
- Glucosamine and chondroitinThe best-run trials in dogs with osteoarthritis found no more pain relief than placebo, and a 2022 review of 72 trials advises against recommending them.
- MSMWe found no dog trial of MSM alone for joints, and gains in people with knee osteoarthritis are small. It seems to be well tolerated.
- CollagenSmall trials found improvements with both forms, at least two paid for by the companies whose collagen was being tested. The broadest review found only a weak effect.
Gut
- Probiotic (Bacillus)EFSA found one Bacillus strain for dogs made faeces slightly drier and doubted it mattered to owners. A good label gives species, strain and CFU.
- Apple pomaceNo page yet. It will follow with the manufacturer's specification sheet.
- PumpkinNo page yet. It will follow with the manufacturer's specification sheet.
Skin and coat
- Algal omega-3EPA and DHA gave the clearest effect on arthritis pain in a 72-trial review. Skin, kidney and heart studies are small, and high doses can lower blood vitamin E.
- FlaxseedNo page yet. It will follow with the manufacturer's specification sheet.
Immunity
- Vitamin EOmega-3 raises a dog's need for vitamin E, and natural and synthetic forms differ in strength, so compare products by IU, not milligrams.
- Vitamin CA healthy dog makes its own vitamin C. Extra doses did little in studies, and a dog that has had oxalate stones should not get it without the vet.
- Green tea extractSmall dog studies point to changes in blood fats, insulin sensitivity and bad breath, none enough to claim a benefit. Safety is what has been studied best.
Chewdini is a complementary feed. These pages explain each ingredient and what research says about it; they do not describe a treatment. We will publish the amount of each ingredient per chew once we have the manufacturer's final specification sheet.
